Arcadian mine was a copper mine developed in 1898 near Paavola, (then called Arcadia〔Romig, Walter. "Michigan Place Names: The History of the Founding and Naming of More than Five Thousand Past and Present Michigan Communities" (Google books ) Page 27.〕) in Franklin Township, a short distance east of Hancock, in Houghton County, Michigan. The initial public offering was managed by Boston financier Thomas W. Lawson. The mine was owned and managed by Arcadian Copper Company in which some Standard Oil directors had a significant interest.〔New York Times, "Arcadian Copper Company" June 24, 1898. (nytimes.com )〕 Although there was a significant amount of investment in the mine, it was not rich in copper.〔Stevens, Horace, "The Copper handbook" 1900 (Google books ). Pages 207--213.〕 By 1908, the mine was thought to be one of the most spectacular failures in the region.〔Mining and engineering world: Volume 28. 1908. Page 169. (Google books )〕 The mine was operated as a tourist destination from the 1950s to the 1970s.〔Michigan Tech University, Copper Country Archives, (Arcadian mine )〕 ==See also== * Copper mining in Michigan * List of Copper Country mines 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Arcadian mine」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
